Welcome to the

5th International Ecoperformance Film Festival - IEFF

The IEFF is an artistic response to the ecopolitical challenges of the XXI century. At the intersection of cinema, performing arts, and ecology, the festival promotes short films of interdisciplinary artists that investigate the tensions between environment, body, ancestry, and memory in natural, urban, and virtual landscapes and strive to overcome anthropocentric paradigms of performance and cinematography.

For the fifth festival edition, our curators selected 44 short films from 23 countries categorized as as Ecopoet[h]ics, Ecodramas, Ecoanimations, and Ecodocumentaries and to be exhibited from June 6 to July 6, 2025 in cooperation with cultural institutions and universities in Argentina, Brazil, and Romania.  In addition, the festival’s online edition will be broadcast from July 4 to 6 on the IEFF’s YouTube channel.

“On the occasion of its fifth anniversary, the International Ecoperformance Film Festival is consolidating itself as a reference for ecopoet[h]ic cinema that addresses the threats to the conditions of existence on planet Earth, while celebrating the beauty and complexity of life. The film selection showcases short films that engage with traditional performing and visual arts (dance, theater, singing, music, sculpture) and explore the creative potential of new digital tools. The program conveys unique artistic perspectives, with significant participation from Afro-diasporic, Indigenous, feminist, and LGBTQ+ artists who explore the tensions between nature and civilization, inviting the audience on a transcultural cinematic journey that takes you from the Amazon to the Andes and from the Arctic to Aotearoa (New Zealand).”  The IEFF Team

ECOPERFORMANCE

In the field of the performing and audiovisual arts, ecoperformance is a concept coined in 2009 by the Brazilian choreographer Maura Baiocchi and elaborated by the German director Wolfgang Pannek. Ecoperformance understands environment and body as inseparable dimensions of performative creation. In ecoperformances, the environment constitutes a living play of interactive presences and forces, among which the human body. Therefore, ecoperformances and ecoperformative films strive for non-anthropocentric forms of dramaturgy and cinematography.
